TEAM HANDLEY 2018
Our family has decided to participate again in the Butterfly Run Quinte in honour of the baby we lost in August 2016 at 8 weeks to ectopic pregnancy, and one we lost just this year in March to a miscarriage. Last year when we participated it was such a healing experience.
I have seen and experienced first hand the amazing work that the funds raised by the Butterfly Run does for families like mine who have experienced loss in our community. I have been able to attend support meetings organized by the Butterfly Girls that are now linked up with PAIL out of Sunnybrook Hospital. I have seen the community come together to make bracelets for bereaved moms and put together the kits that these funds provide to bereaved families. I had the opportunity in March to speak about my loss on a parent panel as part of PAIL sensitivity training, which these funds help to provide to physicians, nurses, midwives and others who may come in contact with families experiencing pregnancy or infant loss. I have recently watched a dear friend go through a late loss of her own and seen the amazing support and guidance her family was given by the Butterfly Girls and the keepsakes of their baby they will cherish because of the thoughtful items provided in the Butterfly Box.
I am so grateful that this event has been raising awareness for families who have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. This is important work, and it affects 1 in 4 of us. Any funds that you can contribute are greatly appreciated and are used toward things that truly make a difference.
