Lisa McAuley's Fundraising Page
Every year I organize and participate in the Gaetane Harvey Memorial Walk. As many of you know my passion for fundraising began after I lost my Mother to breast cancer in 2006. Fundraising, planning, walking has all become therapeutic me. As much as I try it has not filled the hole in my heart, it has not lessened the sadness I feel when I think of my loss, BUT it has empowered me to help others, it has given me a way to deal with the heartache, most of all it has given me hope. The hope that my fundraising can and will help others fight against this terrible disease, hope that a daughter can hold onto her mother for a while longer, hope that I can stop another person from feeling this loss.
My Mother wasn't perfect, she had her faults but she was perfectly imperfect to me. My best friend that I could always count on, someone to nurse me back to health when I was sick (even long after I moved out of the house), she was the life of every party, easy to talk to when life was cruel, the best person to confess to when you knew you made the biggest mistakes and the best person to talk to when something great happened, always in my corner, always there . . . she was my Mom, my friend and I miss her each and every day. Cancer stole her from me, even before she died, it took away her smile and her infectious laugh, it took her away from me, took away her powerful hands although even at her weakest those hands had the power to make me feel better, they had the power to take away my fears and anxieties right to the very end of her life.
And so I walk, I fundraise, I ask and ask for donations, I do all of this to take away the hurt and loss from others and from myself, I do all this and hope my hands can be as powerful to others as hers were to me.
Thank you for all your support!
Much Love and Appreciation,
Lisa
Thank you for choosing to support my fundraising efforts for the Gaetane Harvey Memorial Walk. You are helping to improve cancer care right here in our own community.
All funds raised will go directly to
- supporting the Belleville General Hospital Foundation in raising money for better Cancer Care in our community
- The Dr. Douglas A. MacIntosh Oncology Clinic at Belleville General Hospital
53 kilometres is a long journey and I couldn't do it without your support. By making a donation you are helping those who continue their fight, those who have survived and honouring loved ones who have passed.
